Secrets

For one of our assignements in ARTS 400B i was suppose to make a piece that represented a secret. I decided to depict an event from when i lived in Riverside, CA back in 1990. A homeless man came into my house and kept me locked in my room over night. I think i have finally gotten over my fear of the dark.

I started with a self portrait i had done earlier in the semester (that i wasn't real crazy about in the first place - another attempt with a new media - prismacolor markers) as a value study. I had done it on stips of paper woven together in a basket weave with the express purpose of taking it back apart; a deconstruction to create a fragmentation portrait. Then i added scrap strips of browns, greys and blacks to stand for my "house of sticks". The entire thing is now seen as an explosion, swirling in the air (blue and white background). Lastly, i added some red acrylic paint as bloody smears of hand and finger prints to represent the physical violence of the attack.

ARTS 400B continued

So much for "filling the page". I liked the errieness of the shadow yet the leaf seems to be skidding across the paper! Such liveliness! Thus i named this piece "The Chase"

"A moment in Time" Also a first time media, oil pastel. I watched a gal in class working on an earlier assignment and i was just so inspired my the way the media worked that i had to try it. My challenge here was getting my tree tops to have dementionality.

This was the first time EVER i had used a ball point pen as media. Scarey! each mark is there FOREVER! no correction was allowed.

Night Sky - gouche ... also a firt time media choice. Considereing that i am suppose to be doing images of "quality"i have no idea why the sudden urge for experimintation.

My faithful standby.... pastels. But the challenge in this still life was the depth of the glass to shadow on the wall.

ARTS 400B

It was an interesting semester art wise. The focus of our class was not on the technique per ce but rather emphasis was placed on the quality of the work. We were required to present finished pieces, framed pieces, pieces that generally filled up the page.

Vibrancy

I altered a previously posted picture at a Proffs encouragment. With every mark i made i cringed. What am i doing? It was such a nice portrait.
Ahhhh, but now it is one of my favorite self portraits.

Walking Trees

I love these tree trunks! They just look like something out of Lord of Rings or Narnia. It is funny the things you can find "within" nature.

Praying Hands

I designed this for a friend of mine as a tattoo. Art has many uses.

Parts of Me

in Silverpoint.

It has been ages since i have posted anything. Now... i will be doing some catching up!
